Mars versus Venus: A Glance into the Literacy Performance Along Malaysian Primary Boys and Girls presents five chapters altogether discuss the differences in academic achievement between boys and girls, specifically in literacy. Due to numerous statistics showing that girls fare better at school compared to boys, the publications of this book is believed to be beneficial and timely, as well as a worthy issue to be explored from a renewed and fresh perspective. The issue of boys' underachievement labelled as "failing boys", "boy crisis", "boy gap" and "boys underachievement" is a serious concern as highlighted in the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025. Indeed, it is imperative to uncover the reasons for boys' underachievement and find ways to ensure boys are engaged in education so that they become precious sources of human capital to avoid many cohorts of lost boys. Through the description and discussion regarding the issue raised, it is hoped that this book successfully brings readers into the exploration of literacy achievement of primary school students and offers possible reason alongside suggestions on gendered pattern of literacy performance in Malaysia.
