Synopsis

At first, we were reluctant to write this book thinking that it would be just a waste of our time as well as the readers. Writing a management book can lead to a lot of controversial issues because people would tempt to disagree with some of the facts written in the book and they could make nasty comments later on and thus, made our efforts were in vain. We hope not in our case because our aim of writing is just to relate our different generation management exposures, experiences and to minimize gaps. On the other hand, we feel that we should not be too skeptical about this feeling, particularly after remembering the wisdoms of our lecturers who used to say to us the followings, “Whatever course you attend, whether you may have already known the subject matter or not, you will learn something new out of it, and that experiences and exposures are part of the qualifications that could be useful to others”. These philosophical words inspired us to continue our idea of writing this book with the sincere hope that it could be of use to some of the up-coming managers in whatever organization they may serve. It is not for glory or recognition, but based on our sincerity with the hope that it could be of guidance to some people, and therefore we treat this book as charitable activities, if it could really be resourceful to others.

As many people observed, management and administration are usually placed on the top of the hierarchy of any organization. In other words, managers control and manage the organization. Most people think that managing is very difficult, but it could be made simple if we keep things simple, logical, practical and most importantly we are willing and committed to lead the organization. One of the tasks of a manager is to make decision. Manager must make such decisions as practical, logical, simple and timely as possible. There are many types of decisions. It could be pertaining to financial matters, procedures, staff improvement, control, training, promotion, welfare etc. Many things can get haywire easily if the manager does not have the capability in managing staffs, resources, machines, time and in making appropriate good decisions. We also included some of the basic Islamic management principles in this book merely to provide some of the basic information on Islamic management principles, and hopefully it will help to clear some of the misconceptions by some people on the behavior of Muslims at work places. This is because Muslims have some abstentions to observe which may not be well understood by non-Muslims. This book has eleven chapters from management concepts to managing conflicts in organization.
