The word ‘halal’ in Malaysia is no longer an alien term. Malaysia has been the pioneer in the halal industry since 1974 with the issuance of halal certification letters to all products that meet the halal criteria as governed by the Research Centre for Islamic Affairs Division in the Prime Minister’s Office. To date, Malaysia has been at the forefront of the global halal pharmaceutical and cosmetics market, with the country listed as among the top 10 producers in the world. Malaysia has also taken a step further by expanding and leading the halal market with strong government provisions, particularly the world-class certification system. This book will provide a general overview of the halal industry, with a focus on halal pharmaceuticals and halal cosmetics.
